38 Weeks

Today I got a notification on my phone from The Bump app that said “Congrats on week 38!  Your baby is now the size of pumpkin.”  My thought process:

“Awww…how cute!  Wait!  What?  A pumpkin?!?  That’s freaking huge!”

I also received a text from Cole this morning that said “Holy crap it is March, I’m freaking out!”  Haha so we were both having moments this morning.

According to the app baby girl might already have about an inch of hair, be about 19 inches long or more, and weighing in between 6 to 9 lbs.  She is still gaining that cute baby fat and her brain and nervous system are still fine tuning.  She is running out of room so I’m not feeling her kick as much but she still lets me know she is in there.

As far as I go, I’m feeling ok.  I’m tired most of the time and my back and hips are continuing to hurt.  I’ve also been experiencing some sharp pains in my lower abdomen but they never progressed into contraction-like pains.  My belly is continuing to grow and change every week and I think it is starting to drop.

37 Weeks – I think my bump looks higher and rounder last week

I’m having mixed feelings about her arrival.  I’m so excited to meet her, see her little face, count her tiny fingers and toes, hold her close to me, and get to finally experience being a mom.  BUT…I love having her to myself right now.  While I can’t say I love being pregnant I love feeling her kick from within and watching my belly move and bump around.  I also love looking down and seeing this baby bump. There was a long time when I honestly didn’t think I would ever experience pregnancy and know what it feels to have a tiny human growing inside me.  It is really special to me even though I don’t express that part of pregnancy with people often.  Right now she is giving me gentle nudges in the side, it’s so cool!

I finally finished one project for her, I made her a wonky teddy bear.  I have other projects I want to finish but I’m having issues with my sewing machine ugh.

I have been blessed with such wonderful friends showering myself, Cole, and the baby with love and gifts.  I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for that. Of course, I already wrote about the wonderful shower Whit threw us back in November.  Since then, Christina and my book club threw me a special baby book shower so baby girl is on her way to having a nice collection of books.  Then in January Amanda and Stephanie hosted a 3rd OSS baby shower for us.  And last but not least, Susan organized a fun work shower for me where she made an amazing Mexican feast for everyone.  Thank you thank you thank you ladies and all of the guests that came to celebrate this baby girl!!!

Baby Acker Update 02/20/16

For anyone that is keeping track I am 36 weeks along now!!!  How is this possible that this pregnancy has passed us by so quickly?!

36 weeks!

36 weeks!

I went to the doctor on Wednesday and she said that everything seems to be progressing normally.  The doctor doesn’t actually do much at the appointments other than measure my belly with a tape measure haha and listen to the baby’s heartbeat.  Then she answers my unending questions about what to expect.  Yesterday Cole and I took a birthing class and we both left a little traumatized.  We are both terrified of labor haha.

According to my handy dandy pregnancy app baby girl is currently about 19-22 inches and 6 lbs and they compare her to a large cantaloupe.  Her liver and kidneys are now in working order, she’s gaining more fat, and her skin is smoothing out.  She is pretty much ready to make her arrival!  I feel her move so much now and it is an incredible feeling.  These last few weeks have been my favorite part of pregnancy because I can finally feel her a lot (I couldn’t at first because of the placement of my placenta).  I’ve been in a lot of pain with my hips but when I feel her move I forget about the pain.  Cole gets to feel her moving sometimes but she tends to be shy.  That might be a sign of how she will be outside of the womb too…I’m excited to meet her and find out!

Since I haven’t posted since week 20 I wanted to add some fun pics from my first baby shower and our 3D ultrasound that we had done when we visited Arkansas.  It was so fun because we surprised my mom with taking her to the ultrasound.

It’s over 13 minutes but here is the video from the ultrasound if anyone wants to check it out.

And one last one…the nursery is starting to come together.  Putting the crib up tonight made baby girl’s arrival feel very real!

Screaming Lunatic

Saturday was a busy day.  I went shopping with a new friend, I napped (pregnancy = exhausted), tried to finish up some Christmas presents (yes I’m late…who is shocked?!), and got a big surprise.  Cole told me that he had to pick up someone from the airport, a guy and his wife who are new to the squadron.  Great!  I’ll stay here, braless in my pjs, mismatched socks, and messy hair and work on some sewing.  Little did I know that Cole is a big fat liar a great husband who had a big surprise in store for me.  While he was gone I thought I heard something and was feeling a little jumpy so when he got home I was a little on edge.  He came upstairs and asked me to come downstairs to show me something.  He knows what effort it takes for me to walk up and down the stairs now so when he requested it I thought it must be important although I was a tad bit annoyed.  When I got down in the kitchen I step in a puddle of water with my mismatched socked feet and got even more annoyed.  Then suddenly Whitney pops her head up from behind the bar and says surprise or something.  I don’t even remember what she said because next thing I know I’m throwing my hands in the air, screaming like a freaking lunatic, and hiding behind Cole lol.  I always see these sweet surprise videos on FB of friends surprising one another and they embrace and sometimes cry but no, I’m the screaming lunatic.  Cole managed to get a bit of it on video but it is so obnoxious with my screaming and my disheveled look that I won’t torture you with it.

Whit is so sweet and decided to come visit and help me with the task of setting up the nursery.  Yesterday we ran some errands and got to ride on a dog sled.  The rest of the week nights will be dedicated to nursery chores and to baking.  I’m so excited to have her here and to spend this time together.  Thank you to Whitney and Cole for making this happen and surprising me so well!

Cole and I went in for the 20 week ultrasound today and found out that baby is looking good. The tech didn’t see anything of concern and we are feeling extremely blessed about this. I pray daily for Baby Acker to grow strong and healthy and God is answering those prayers. Baby is weighing in at 12 ounces and is about 6 1/2 inches long. Baby is middle of the road in the growth percentile and I’m happy about that…I definitely don’t want to be pushing out a 10 lb baby haha. As long as everything goes smoothly it will be our last ultrasound. It makes me a little sad because it is just amazing to see the baby moving around, being able to count fingers and toes, watch the heart beat…it is just a wonderment to me. Anyway…I know you’re all dying to find out the gender. Cole and I made a short little video for you, I hope you get a laugh out of it.

Half Way

Today, October 27, 2015, marks the half way mark of my pregnancy!  20 weeks down 20 or so more to go.  I’m feeling pretty well on the pregnancy front.  Not much morning sickness anymore, the heartburn has died down, and I have a tad more energy.  I’ve been battling a terrible cold for about three weeks now though so that is making me feel crappy in other ways.

We find out baby’s gender tomorrow afternoon!  I can’t wait!!  What do you think it will be?  Boy or girl?
